I am an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Philosophy at Providence College in Rhode Island. This site is designed for two purposes: to provide information and services for students in my courses and to make available my professional information.
Some courses are required of majors in a particular subject, whereas others are designed to appeal to students in other majors seeking to fulfill their core requirements. In either case the primary purpose of a course is not to entertain students but to lead them to understand material they previously have not studied. The ultimate responsibility for learning, however, lies with the student. The more you engage with the material of any course the more likely you are t9 enjoy it. Core requirements are intended to broaden your horizons, the very heart of a liberal education.
